Principal Julie Garcia

It is truly an honor to be the principal at Homyak PK-8.   I have been an educator since 1998 when I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado.  I started my career as an elementary teacher in Adams 12 Five Star School District.  In 2004, I earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University and put this learning to use as an instructional coach in Adams 12.  I truly loved working with teachers and leading professional development so I furthered my education and completed a Masters in Education Administration and Supervision from University of Phoenix.

In 2012, I wanted to share my love of learning and give back to the community I grew up in, so I made the move to the Weld Re 8 School District and became a principal at Quest Academy.  Fast forward to 2018 which is when I had the unique opportunity of leading the transition from Quest Academy to Homyak PK-8.

There are many things that make Homyak special, but what makes it truly unique is the community. We recognize the importance of relationships and we value the partnership between the school, parents and community.  There is a sign outside my door that says “Kids First.”  I believe this to my very core!  Every decision made needs to be through the lens of what is best for our students. After 20+ years in education, I have learned research changes and trends come and go, but doing what is best for kids is the key to success.  Relationships and quality instruction is what it is all about!

When I am not at work with my Homyak family, I am blessed to be home with my own family. My husband and I have three teenagers to keep us on our toes!  I love to watch my kids play sports, listen to country music, read, walk my crazy goldendoodle, and travel.  My favorite trips are to the beach where I can put my toes in the sand and soak up the sunshine!
